The brief required creating a complete visual identity and campaign system for the 10th anniversary of Lagos Startup Week. The primary challenge was to elevate the event's significance for this major milestone without starting from scratch, instead building upon ten years of existing colors, logos, and community associations. The identity needed to remain flexible and durable over a five-month campaign period across various media while maintaining design coherence on typically functional surfaces like venue maps.
The team adopted a strategy of refinement rather than replacement, using a bold and polished color palette that connected to previous years. A collaborative workflow was established where design, motion, illustration, web, copy, email, and production teams took full ownership of their specific disciplines while staying aligned with a collective vision. The process involved physical meetings, virtual reviews, and multiple rounds of testing and rebuilding to ensure the system’s integrity.
A versatile 10-Year Anniversary logo was developed for both static and animated use, supported by a vibrant illustration style of bold, flat geometric shapes to represent Lagos’s tech ecosystem. The visual system was applied consistently across all touchpoints, including venue wayfinding, branded templates for specific conference tracks (Women Who Launch, Founders and Funders, DevJam), and a redesigned main website. A dedicated microsite was also built to document a decade of the ecosystem's impact.
The project delivered a seamless and immersive brand experience at the Civic Centre venue, covering everything from stage branding and screen visuals to elevator signage. The consistent application of the visual identity across digital and physical spaces ensured there were no gaps in the attendee journey. The campaign successfully ran from March through July, resulting in a cohesive milestone celebration and a lasting digital record of the event’s ten-year legacy.
